Ideas to help your child with maths facts at home

Learning the basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts will make your child much more confident and successful in math. That way, they’ll be well-prepared to tackle all other math topics. Quick recall is important, and as a general rule, children should be able to answer basic fact questions in no more than 6 seconds per fact.

·      Each term classes will focus on a different set of maths facts; addition, multiplication, subtraction and division.

·      With addition and multiplication remind your child that 2 x 7 or 2 + 7 is the same as 7 x 2 or 7 + 2.  Please practice each sum both ways round.

Basic facts

Basic facts are all the number facts we want children to be able to recall instantly, such as doubles, number bonds to ten and multiplication facts. Building knowledge and quick recall of the basic facts is essential for developing mental agility, and to be able to solve problems using mental strategies.
